One of my duties as National Secretary is to communicate information regarding members’ benefits. To some, the recent increase in annual membership dues to $60.00 may seem like a significant one. However, the increase comes to only $1.25 per month, or $15.00 per year. This is not such a large sum, especially when compared to the practice of donating money to a church.
For example, a one dollar-per-week church donation comes to $52.00 a year—not that different from our current annual dues of $60. Often, members of a congregation contribute far more than a single dollar each week. Members of the Theosophical Society are similar to a church congregation in that they are searching to improve themselves and their quality of life, as well as reaching toward the highest and greatest good they can imagine.
Members supporting any organization they believe in strongly enough to join should feel a sense of pride and community. In order to share its ideas with the world, we must lead by example to help the Theosophical Society fulfill its mission of advancing and disseminating knowledge of Theosophy.
