Lodge History—Does It Need to Repeat Itself?

Lodge History—Does It Need to Repeat Itself?
By Tim Boyd
Anyone who has been in the TSA for a while has witnessed a cyclical phenomenon. It is something more common in older groups, and the cycle goes something like this. A TS group comes into existence. Inspired by the teachings and moved by an energetic individual or group of individuals, the group grows. For a time it flourishes, attracting new members and forming a real nucleus, a community where f… Continue

By Richard Smoley

Executive Editor, Quest magazine
Did you realize that the earth as we know it did not exist a million years ago? This may sound incredible, but I can prove it to you simply and irrefutably. I’m not saying that the… Continue

The Theosophical Society in America: A Vision for Our Future

Your Board of Directors has been working on the seeds of a “strategic vision” for the TSA, with the intention of casting these seeds among lodges, study centers, and national members for refinement, cultivation, nurturance, and, finally, the collective birth of a roadmap to guide the work of the TSA in future years. Initiated by our National President in February 2008, a “Strategic Visioning Committee” was formed consisting of outgoing and incoming Board members, thus contributing both experienc… Continue

Jeffrey Forth addresses recent TSA dues increase

One of my duties as National Secretary is to communicate information regarding members’ benefits. To some, the recent increase in annual membership dues to $60.00 may seem like a significant one. However, the increase comes to only $1.25 per month, or $15.00 per year. This is not such a large sum, especially when compared to the practice of donating money to a church. For example, a one dollar-per-week church donation comes to $52.00 a year—not that different from our current annual dues of $60… Continue

A note from Betty Bland regarding Community participation

Dear TC friends, I have asked that my occasional postings be included in this TSA blog and my profile removed from this Community site because I have realized that participants in the Community spend a lot of time in active conversations and expect the same from me. I do want to have as open communication with our members and friends as possible, but I confess to being a very busy person and one who does not spend time following various threads of communication. This is not for lack of interest… Continue

The TSA and Phoenix Study Center Honor Miles Standish

On December 7, 2008, members of the Phoenix Study Center gathered to honor Miles Standish, a member of the Theosophical Society since 1946, for all his good works. Letters of congratulations were read from Betty Bland, our National President, and John Algeo, International Vice President, both of whom have known Miles in various capacities over many years.

Tim Boyd Reports on Journey to Tibet

On October 10, 2008, people from all across the USA met in Chengdu, China to begin a pilgrimage in Tibet – Blavatsky’s Tibet - sponsored by the TSA. The year before 47 pilgrims had made a similar journey. Although six members of the group were members of the Theosophical Society and knew something of HPB’s life and travels, everyone came as pilgrims – people reverently making a journey to a sacred place. The clear focus for all of us was Tibet’s spiritual dimension, and a spiritual tradition whi… Continue
