Living With Differences

I am posting this text as a blog because it is in part a continuation of my blog on “10 December Human Rights Day “and in part a reply to Tracy C. Smith’s question on how can we live with differences and can we help others to live with their differences?.

I think that we need to look at dramatic situations which could become even more violent. Differences of views within a TS Lodge is one thing, people blowing themselves up in order to kill others with different views… Continue

Mary Byles in her book on the Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi, The Lotus and the Spinning Wheel, writes “There is a middle way between rushing in trying to effect reforms when still filled with feelings of innate hatred and ill-will and not trying to effect those reforms at all until such feelings have been killed. It will always be difficult to find that middle way, b… Continue

10 December: Human Rights Day

If synthesis is to be a major aspect of the coming age, it is useful to look at an important earlier effort at synthesis-that of the Roman Stoics. From the discussions and differing philosophical traditions found in the Mediterranean world, they developed the concept of the person and then the citizen, concepts which have come down to us as pointed out in this essay marking December 10th: Human Rights Day

Mundy and the Khyber Rifles

He who would understand the Plains must ascend the Eternal Hills, where a man’s eyes scan Infinity. Be he who would make use of understanding must descend on the Plains where Past and Future meet, and men have need of him.
Talbut Mundy Om-The Secret of Abbor Valley

The current fighting on both sides of the Afghanistan-Pakistan frontier and the Khyber Pass which links the two countries brings to mind the theosophical novel King of the Khyber Rifles (1916)… Continue

Hostage held on the Afghan/Pakistan Frontier

This hostage-taking case is what I am working on these days, difficult because of the fighting along part of the frontier, but others may be interested in reading about the Kalacha people. The fullest description is the French text I give in the note of my presentation, but there is a good pit in English if one Googles Kalasha. Best wishes, Rene

Dear Colleagues,

I would be pleased if you can help in this effort to liberate a hostage on the Pakistan-Afghan frontier. Best wishes, Rene Wadlow… Continue

Hello Rene. Thanks for the friend request. Yes, it takes time to get familiar with how these sites work. Without really trying, I've become a member of six of them! Though not writing much to them all, maybe these non-physical connections are helping to build up in this somehow emerging global brain with its emerging global consciousness.

Everything's Amazing and Nobody's Happy

In a recent appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, stand-up comedian Louis C.K. offered a poignant and hilarious wake-up call when he pointed out one of the tremendous ironies of our time: the fact that, in the midst of the most highly evolved and technologically sophisticated civilization in human history, we still often overlook our incredible privilege and manage to feel strangely blasé about it all...
