We are sorry to announce the passing of one of our good friends of the Atlanta Lodge Kenneth Bertrand who passed on to his life in the hereafter at his home in Buford Ga on January,16th 2009. Ken passed away of a massive heart attack suddenly at only age 39. This tragedy has stuck us all of with a sense of great loss. Ken was born in St. Louis, Missouri on December 30th 1969 and adopted by his loving parents James Edward (deceased) & Margaret Joan Bertrand of Arlington Heights, Illinois. They later moved to St. Simons Island, Georgia where Ken graduated from Glenn Academy of nearby Brunswick, Georgia. Kens’ many loves were the Ocean, Boating and Custom Car Shows where for many years he won many awards with his custom 1988 S-10. Ken met Brian James in November of 2002 and Brian quickly moved to Atlanta in January of 2003. They were together for 6 years as of January 2nd of this year. Ken was previously a member of The Theosophical Society and for a short acted as the Audio/ Video person for the Atlanta Lodge.
He was predeceased by his father, James Edward Bertrand previously of Young Harris, Georgia. He is survived by his Domestic Partner of 6 years Brian James, of Buford, Georgia, and his Mother Margaret Joan Bertrand of Jesup, Georgia as well as by his many friends.

His memorial service was officiated by another long time Theosophist George Cotter. His service was beautifully done based on the Theosophical ideas by which Ken tried to lived. He had several speakers such as his best friends Vicki Woodall and Adrienne Simmons
His partner and member of the Lodge Brian James also spoke reading from Kalil Gibran. The service ended with a beautiful Candlelight Ceremony where all of his friends and family honored the light he shared by lighting a Candle in his honor. We hope that you have reached that unreachable star Ken and may your light continue to shine as you continue forward on your quest.

Brian James has of late become a dazzling force of invigoration in the Atlanta lodge. Perhaps Charles Romines is looking down upon him and showering him with blessings. We have weekly Sunday lectures and Tuesday night classes in which we study 'The Divine Plan'. We also have member's meetings before the Sunday lectures in which we are studying the smaller Theosophy books such as 'At The Feet of The Master.' We take those works apart sentence by sentence and have a lot of fun doing it. We do our best to reach out to the public for more members and to those who are only interested in hearing what we're about. Katie Snyder, our librarian, is upgrading our library data and we hope to put our collection online in the near future.

We are sorry to announce the passing of one of our prominent members Charles Romines who passed on to his life in the hereafter after a long fight with cancer at his home in Marietta on August 9, 2008, where he was surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born March 2, 1940, the only son of the late Charles C. Romines, Sr. and Thomasine Vickers Romines of Atlanta. Charles was the beloved husband of Caroline for the past 22 years. He graduated from Grady High School and later attended Georgia State University. He pursued a long career as a self-employed building contractor. Charles was also a member of the Theosophical Society in America for 38 years. He also spent many years as an active member, officer, and even President of the Atlanta Lodge of the Theosophical Society were he made many friends. He was also a big fan of the music of Ravi Shankar. His memorial service was officiated by another long time Theosophist George Cotter. His service was beautifully done based on the Theosophical ideas by which Charles lived. He had several speakers such as Charles's on Chad as well as Tim Bromley (son of Louise Bromley Theosophical Author) who spoke of there memories of Charles. Long time member Clare Johnson read the poem "If" by Rudyard Kipling. Brian James also spoke reading letters of condolence by both Betty Bland and John Algeo and speaking a few inspirational words. All of those in attendance recited "The Golden Stairs" in his honor. The service ended with a beautiful Candlelight Ceremony where all of his friends and family honored the light he shared by lighting a Candle in his honor. We hope that you have reached that unreachable star Charles and may your light continue to shine as you continue forward on your quest.
