Personally i believe in immortality bcause we are made up of energy. Accoding to the laws of physics energy cannot be created nor can it be destroyed; it can only change form!

I also believe that the energy that makes up our essence is immortal, that our spirit or soul if you may is timeless and eternal, all of our memories from our various existances in various incarnations our ego has manifested is ingrained on our soul and therefore would make the individual also immortal. But as far as the physical in concerned, I've researched many topics on the idea and there's a lot of evidence that points to yes. I don't know where you stand on your views of life on other planets and other forms, but from the concesnses of information I've studied, there's been numerous stories, folk tales, legends from ancient literature that attest to the longevity of the gods and angels, or whatever word you deem fit to describe the help humanity has recieved from above, but what I've gathered is that thier physical bodies don't decay, or age and they remain in that form for as long as they deem necissary weither it be for hundreds of years to thousands and even accounts of millions of years.
If you look at ancient Egyptian genelogy stories, Ptah ruled in Egypt for well over 36,000 years, and didn't die at the end of his reign but rather stepped down so that his son could rule and there's actually no account of him dying. The only account of an egyptian diety experiencing death in a human sense is Osiris when he was tricked by his brother Seth and was murdered but then it was said that he transcended and was still an influental figure in Egyptian mythology.
I don't know if this answered your questions of immortality, but perhaps it gave you a bit of information to strengthen your own understanding of the concept. Oh, don't forget about the fountain of youth stories and the tales of St. Germain and his elixer of life, but I've gone on long enough on the topic. Feel free to ask me further questions, I have a wealth of knowledge I've researhed and I would love to hear your ideas and thoughts upon any subject. Bless you.

Apply the physics law in spirituality and you will get the meaning of immortality. i.e...

"Soul cannot be created nor can it be destroyed; it can only change form (from one body to another)!"

If one flattens a mountain, then the mountain is gone for ever, even though its materials are still around.
As a Christian I do believe in the resurrection of the body. We are beings with body and soul, not souls with occasional bodies.
