Natural Flu Prevention

With all of the media and government attention being given to the flu this year, it is good to know that you can avoid such viruses by aligning with nature. The most important preventative measure you can take is to be sure that your diet is feeding health, not breeding illness.

Eat immune-boosting foods on a daily basis. This includes an abundance of fresh, organically grown fruits and vegetables. Look for brightly colored fruits and vegetables as they are packed with healthy phytonutrients that strengthen your immune system. Eating a diet rich in raw, living foods lowers your susceptibility to the flu virus, and can help you recover if you do become ill.

Among the best flu-fighting foods and herbs are:


Fresh raw garlic - garlic has powerful, natural, antiviral properties that purify the blood and kill viruses. Garlic provides a strong boost to your immune system, especially when eaten on a regular basis.


Cayenne Pepper - Cayenne has a long list of health benefits and is an immune-system booster. Cayenne contains large amounts of natural vitamins A and C. It is also wise to take vitamin C supplements throughout the year.

Cinnamon - This spice has a long history of use in preventing and curing disease, going back to the Old Testament. Commercially prepared cinnamon extracts should be taken as high doses of pure cinnamon powder can be toxic. Cinnamon extract sprays have been successfully used in airports to kill the bird flu virus.

Echinacea and astragalus strengthen the immune system. These viral fighters can be used to prevent and to treat flu viruses. They are best taken in tincture form.

It is important to avoid crowded areas, eating out in restaurants, and those who are sick. Wash your hands frequently whenever you have to be out in public.

Don't forget that as goes the mind, so goes the body. Stay in a positive, joyful state of mind. Envision a protective field of light energy in and around your body. Meditate, breathe deeply and do spiritual practices every day. Know that within you lies the power to resist and defeat every illness, and that all of nature supports you in bringing this truth into your life.
