Since I'm fairly new on this forum I don't know if this has been discussed before so I decided to just throw it out here...!

I would say for myself that I believe in being informed.. so I might attend a program that informs people about various positions politically or I might discuss various issues but where I draw the line is on partisanship.

My own experience tells me that when we become partisans we're locked in to one approach that is usually controlled by someone else..through the necessity to "act" collectively and there's a cost I think to that..

I think there could be something I would call a collective group "karma", so if you align yourself in a partisan way with a political group you are also buying into an extent what that group does and has done to be where they are..

There can be a lot of noble goals or objectives to a political group that are attractive

but sometimes there are less well known factors that have shaped a political organization and that's where I believe you can be affected even without being particularly aware of it.

You could also become involved in actions that normally you wouldn't involve yourself if you were more independent in thought

or you might have your own principles compromised.

I should add here that this "collective karma" may not only apply to political organizations but other organizations as well... say religious or secular organizations..

What you call Karma, I call energy
When energy accumulates, it creates bigger and more powerful energy. Although It may be more fragile.
There is a book about souls written by a physicist that kind of explains this.
It suggests that there are personal souls, family souls, tribal souls, religious and national souls as well.
He suggests that these souls live together according to some system of energy "I did not get it".

In the end, I suppose, You are who you are
Wherever our soul may be

Well that's interesting Nabil... Thanks for posting!

I think we do influence our environment but we forget the surroundings often have their impact on us.. and there is "residual energy". Subjectively some of us may be aware of say negative vibs and don't consciously know why or where it comes from.. in time you learn more about the source and where it came from.

Yesterday I was reading about the concept that homes, i.e., walls, floors, objects absorb what occurs within and around them and he even specualted that television programs broadcast can do this..further if you seek a place to meditate you need a zone without these vibs and it will be easier to meditate there.

Maybe if you recall the book by the physicist sometime post it here..I'd like to see it!

My regards,

I am not sure Art, but the book's name may be "The Seat of the Soul"

Sorry, but I read too many books to remember detail

Nabil,

I'm pretty sure then the book you had in mind was Gary Zukav's "The Seat of the Soul" found at

http://www.amazon.com/Seat-Soul-Gary-Zukav/dp/067169507X

I haven't read it as yet..but it sounds like a very worthwhile book and insightful too!

One review from Publisher's Weekly has this in a review of the book:

he makes a bold attempt to fuse so-called New Age wisdom with modern psychology, science and sociopolitical reality. Zukav posits two types of people: the "five-sensory human" who puts mind over heart, lacks trust, plays power games and can't tap intuition is contrasted with the "multisensory" individual who seeks alignment of the soul with the personality. One section relates personal and national karma to the theory of Gaia, which holds that Earth is a single living entity with a soul.

This also reminds me of something I read about in Sylvia Cranston's "H.P.B.", about morphogenetic fields. This is an idea that is described as a 'middle ground between genes and evolution', and is applied to physical data carried through generations in the development of organs, but also is esoterically defined as actual 'intelligence' or 'entities' which carry realizations or spiritual, creative or intuitive knowledge through generations within families, explaining our talents or predispositions, e.g. - artistic talent, musical, etc...
Interesting stuff!

Thanks for your input Jeff! So do you think that could explain say a Motzart..

esoterically defined as actual 'intelligence' or 'entities' which carry realizations or spiritual, creative or intuitive knowledge through generations within families, explaining our talents or predispositions

As I recall some people use to say some souls had their inherent abilities from previous existences but here there could be entities also..

I should also add that the idea of morphic resonance seems to echo the hindu 'Akashic Record'...

There is a concept that to me resonates "Akashic Records" in the Baha'i Writings:

O YE PEOPLES OF THE WORLD!

Know, verily, that an unforeseen calamity followeth you, and grievous retribution awaiteth you. Think not that which ye have committed hath been effaced in My sight. By My beauty! All your doings hath My pen graven with open characters upon tablets of chrysolite.

(Baha'u'llah, The Persian Hidden Words)

and this:

Thus all that is related to the loved ones of God, their former glory, their present services, the grievous sufferings they have borne -- all will, even as carving on slabs of emerald, be recorded on the scrolls of the Abha Kingdom, and therefrom will they shed their radiance upon all the worlds of God.

(Compilations, Fire and Light, p. 28)
