Last night I went to the Journey concert with my Wife. We were most likely the oldest persons there. I've been following the evolution of their guitar playing "virtuoso" Neal Schon since I first heard him play with Santana and Buddy Miles at Arecibo when he was 15 years old. I've seen this Band before and after Steve "the Voice" Perry. The after period, left the group struggling to recapture something lost, but time and the new life wave takes it's toll with everything. Last night was different. Neal Schon for the first time took control of the Band and had a young Philippino singer that he found on "you tube" vocalizing in the most amazing, mimicking fashion the tonal ranging of Perry. The guitar soloing was breathtaking at eletrifying velocity. It seemed as if the equipment was having difficulty registering the numerous 64 forth and 128th notes, sounding out in rapid, emotional fury in long drawn out melodic interludes. The "Stars and Stripes,Forever" brought tears to my eye's and was just as good, if not better than the version"Hendrix" performed at Woodstock. It was overall a transforming ,resurrectional, reincarnation of a group that has once again found itself and continues to add to their legacy.
