In the spirit of Halloween, I thought I'd attempt to post a thread on one of my favorite subjects lately, ghosts and the paranormal.
I'm quite sure this has been talked about before, so just tell me to read the archives if I'm annoying. =)

Otherwise, I would love to hear of anyone's personal experiences with such things. Anybody ever see or experience a "ghost" first hand? If so, what do you think it was? Intelligent spirit? Residual energy? Demon - and are such things as demons real?

I have never seen a ghost, but I tend to believe such things, in one sense or the other, are quite real and would like to experience this first hand some day.

The late British historian Dr. TC Lethbridge who Colin Wilson wrote about in several books, suggested the distinction bwtween ghosts- apparitions that appear to have a purpose/reason to interact w/ the living for a once or limited period of time. Versus what he called ghouls- mindless apparitional entities that seem oblivious other than performing an endless "loop" of an activity it may have performed when embodied. Lethbridge theorized ghouls were the result of water sources such as ponds, pools, rivers/streams as well as ground water possessesing the ability to somehow record a past event and replay it over an extended period of time. This theory never found great favor among investigators. I offer it up for what it's worth. Lethbridge was an avid dowser and sought confirmation of subtle realms and energy fields.

I had two experiences with what you would call Ghost

The first one was when I was a child visiting my grandparents. My grandpa was a catholic priest. In the Middle East, it is possible for a married man to become a priest, but a priest can't get married.

Grandpa's church and the house he lived in with Grandma where in the same small one story building. There was the Church, smaller than any church I have seen since, it was just like a big room with a place for the priest to pray and places for the people to sit, Kneel, and stand up as the ceremony goes.
The other half of the building was the living quarters for grandpa and grandma.

There were a bunch of us grand kids, playing when we were supposed to be asleep in what was the visitor’s room. For lack of space, they put down mattresses for us kids to sleep, between the fancy hand carved furniture.

A cousin of mine noticed a strange presence that was illuminating the window. The village did not have electricity after midnight, so it must have startled her a bit.
Did you see that? She asked every one around? But no one had notices anything.
We inquired and she said that she saw strange light shadows on the dark windows.
We all had our fantasies, and some of us chose to laugh about it.

But then I saw something. It was a light in the midst of the darkness of the little window. I tried to ignore it, I must be seeing things, I thought.
Then a third, but younger cousin yelled out, Ghost, there is a ghost outside the window.

The brave little kids that we were; we all naturally panicked, ghost! Ghost! Where? I didn't see it. I Did. So did I.
And I. Aw Grandma, Grandma, there a ghost in the room.

Grandma comes, and peace falls upon everyone, as my magic

What’s this fuss about she asks?
Everyone calms down, but for a second. Ghost, Grandma, there is a ghost outside the window.

Oh, children, don’t worry about it, it never harms anyone. It’s been here for a very long time. Leave it alone and it will leave you in peace. Now, you all need to go sleep, we have a big day tomorrow.

That was good enough for me. I knew then that grandma was much stronger and wiser than the ghost, I fell asleep easy after that.
